Music fests. In Mysore are no big deal. Celebrating classical music and musicians has been the town’s tradition, carried over from the Maharaja days when the Palace patronized performing arts in a big way. A music festival of young artistes (Aug.7-17) merits a mention, not because it is being held, but because of the manner in which organizers - Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha - have gone about choosing muscians. That the artistes invited to perform are students with an impressive academic record is noteworthy.
The Sabha is reported to have selected 20 upcoming artistes from among the 45 who had submitted audio recordings of their music. Those attending the concerts, open to all, can count on maintenance of a certain minimum quality of performance.
The Hindu reports that the selected artistes includes Manasi Prasad, who is doing MBA from IIM, Bangalore. G Arun Kumar of Shimoga is an M Com student. Manasa Nayana is a research scholar at IISc, Bangalore. We have a local school student, S Sangeetha (of Nirmala Convent) chosen for a violin concert.
Others who can be heard during the 10-day festival, to be held as part of Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations, at the Sabha premises (6-9 p.m) are:

It is organized jointly by sri tyagaraja Sangeetha sabha charitable Trust (reg) and NadabrahmaSangeetha Sabha. The Nadabrahma Building is situated in J.L.B.road,Opp: Govt.Maternity home ,Near Manandody and JLB Road junction.
It is called Nada Kishorotsava.Appreciations to organisers for creating an oppurtunity to youngsters to show their talents.Manasa nayana, manasiprasad,
I have known at least one of the listed musicians - Sameer, the bansuri player. I have known his father, too. Sameer has had a meteoric rise as a young musician, having already performed outside of India. Through music lovers who know him better, he has all the dedication required to reach higher.
I'm sure these young chaps arevery talented. They need lots of encouragement and I hope Mysoreans are there in good numbers to encourage them. Heartening to know that our music and culture is still being propogated and enjoyed.
Now the 10 day Nada Kishorotsava ( a competition for young atrtists ) are over, I can now safely add some of the following things. Being the Judge in the eliminating and the final round, reducing the participants from 46 to 20 was it self a difficult task. More than 90% of the artists were capable of delivering real good stuff. Therefore all the CDs and tapes from the participants, supplied to me with only identification numbers, were carefully heard with many prescribed parameters. Ultimately the chosen twenty were invited to give live concerts at the Vasudevacharya Bhavana Auditorium of Nada Brahma Sangeetha Sabha, on JLB Road. Even these twenty performers were evaluated very critically and the best male singer, best female singer, best instrumental player, best accompanist on both violin and mrudanga were chosen. All the best performers were given a citation with a title 'NADA KISHORA / NADA KISHORI' and a purse. The event took place on September third 2006. The award was presented to the winners through the gracious hands of the Head of Chinmaya Mission in Karnataka Sri Sri Brahmaji. The winners were SR Vinay, Bangalore, (Vocal), Priyanka Raman, Chennai (Vocal), Sameer L Rao, Mysore/Mumbai, (Instrumental), B Lakshmi, Bangalore and HM Sindhu, Mysore, (Violin) and A Radhesh, Mysore (mrudanga). The performance of all the artists were of good standard. Some had professional approach in performing. Those ten eveings were really nostalgic.
It may be of interest to note that six of the final 20 were the desciples of Vidvan RK Padmanabha of Bangalore. The participants were from all over Karnataka, Chennai and Hyderabad.
NadaKishorotsava was being solely organised by Sri Nadabrahma Sangeeta Sabha,Mysore as part of it's Golden jubilee year celeberations. There were nojoint organisers for the event.Looking to the success of this event,It is strongly thoght to make it an annual feature
