The Mysore police band playing at Kukkarhalli lake on a regular basis, all the year round, is indeed a welcome move. Police Commissioner Praveen Sood is reported as saying that the idea of the police band performing weekly in charitable insttitutions has evoked a lot of enquiries. Such weekly event in an old-age home or orphanage would be something the inmates would look forward to. The institutions where the band performs should think of having an open hous on the performce day so that interested residents in the neighbourhood could also enjoy the band perform. Depending on how this works the police could think of staging performances, perodically, on open spaces, school grounds and parks in poorer and the middle-class localities. This would help further the police-public image.
The PR department could use such gatherings to inform residents about the public welfare activities of the police, by distributing informative brochures and leaflets highlighting the police work.
