A Museum Angadi, at which we can view/buy handicrafts and artefacts, has come up at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Wellington House. Its prime mover, Prof. P K Mishra of Anthropological Association, and IGRMS in charge here, Mr J Vijay Mohan, say the Angadi operates on not-for-profit basis.
Media reports say the museum has on display Rajasthani paintings, Thanka from Sikkim, Pattachitra from Orissa, Madhubani from Bihar, Bankura wooden figures from West Bengal, tribal metal craft from Bastar, wooden boxes, file covers, purses, greetings cards, and IGRMS publications. Affiliated to the central tourism ministry, IGRMS conducts expos and runs crafts class for the interested public.
It would help if our non-resident Mysore folks, if Mr Vijay Mohan, gives a contact e-mail ID, along with the phone number - (0821- 2448231). Wonder if the Museum Angadi has plans for online sales. They could do well to put out a photographic catalogue of items on offer, in their website. They could benefit from the experience of www.ezaria.com.
