I am C.K.Muralidharan, a free-lance sports journalist, based in Mysore. I and my partner who was very like-minded, Mr. Yashasvi Shankar a NRI based in US stared a website in 2000 called www.mysoresports.com, the only city based website on sports which projects the details of mysore sports in detail.
The website is updated with the news often and I am supported well by the visitors and the Mysoreans for its existance. I try to project Mysore to the outside world as much as I can.
One such thing which has happened recently has yielded results. Two Polish based photographers based in Poland contacted me by phone after going through my article on Wrestling in the website www.mysoesports.com in December 2005. They were interested in doing projects on "Traditional Indian sports" and asked me if I could guide them if they come down to Mysore. I taked to them and gave them a detailed view of the Wrestling scene in Mysore and why it is famous.
They agreed to come for two days in December 2005 and shot around 2000 photographs in around 15 Garadis in the city. I was also helped in the project by Mr. Manjanppa, Wrestling Coach, University of Mysore and Mr. Shankar Chakravarthy a National level wrestler who has won Dasara awards like "Dasara Kesar" in the Dasara wrestling contests.
The photographs they took were submitted in sequence to the "World Photo Contest" conducted by the World Photo Foundation, Amsterdam, Netherlands. The photo's won the Third prize under the "Sports Features" category under the head "Mysore's traditional style of wrestling".
The company of the photographers M/s. Yours Photo Gallery, Warsaw, Poland appreciating my contribution to the photographers winning the award have invited me to attend the Prize distribution function to be held at Amsterdam on 23rd April at 8.00 pm Amsterdam time. The photographs of Mysore's wrestlers have made it to the International phorum and I am proud that I was in a small able to contribute to bring this slowly diminishing sport partonised by the Maharaja's of Mysore to the International phorum.
The photo exhibition will start of today and the photos will be exhibited along with 200 other prize winners in different categories and will be held in differnet centres of the world as per the details give in the website www.worldphotopress.org.
Congratulations. I have been hearing about this for a while now.
The internet has compressed the world, they say. But, as two guys both settled in Mysore, isn't it indeed surprising that we should be communicating with each other when you are away in Ambserdam? When are you back. Many more such, and greater, successes.
To other bloggers: I am sorry that I have made use of this public forum for a private communication. But, then, I had no way of reaching a friend who does not meet me in Mysore!
Go ahead, get personal. Mr Vijendra Rao; personal messages are fine so long as they are flatteringly so. This is a public forum, and also an open forum, at which we have found no reason to lay down a code for cummunication.
Incidentally, Mr Rao, as a regular surfer of this site, might have heard/read about Murli's good work in this site. For we had taken note of the notable work of MysoreSports.com in an earlier post. Wonder if Mr. Muralidharan could give us some personal info. on the wrestlers featured in the prize-winning photo. It would be nice reading about them.
