Let us get it right

A few years back in Star of Mysore online I first read about the “Wadiyar” family, I thought it was just a typo. I have seen that “Wodeyar” name being massacred over and over again. Please refer this to some well known personalities in Mysore such as Prof. GTN or Sri TSS. I am confident they will concur with me. Sri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar himself will be a great help here. – U B Vasudev

It is not something left to the stylebook of newspapers (it is another matter though that some of them wouldn't know what it is!). I am very fastidious, personally, about getting the names and their spellings right. Yet, I followed the Deccan Herald style of spelling Srikanta Datta's surname as Wodeyar. It was only much later, when I signed the agreement with him on the book, that I found that he spells it as Wadiyar. When questioned, he said his predecessors did spell it as Wodeyar, but the new spelling was adopted by his immediate predecessors. So, the wrong spelling is indeed the right one!

Wondered what this book deal is about. Would you care to share the info. with us, Mr Vijendra Rao?

I am sorry that I spotted your query only now, a long time after it was made. It is a book on the royal family of Mysore. Due to certain intricacies of the matter, I cannot talk more than this on the subject. Sorry.
