The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has okayed a proposal to build an airport in Mysore and the state government would allot 175 acres for the project, according to industries and infrastructure minister P G R Scindhia (April 4, 2005)
The government has acquired 200 hetares at Madakalli village for the Rs.200-crore Mysore airport project. It is likely to be completed by early 2007, according to industries minister P G R Sindhia (April 6, 2005)
Mysore airport is to be developed in two years for operating 70-seat aircraft. Civil woks to be taken up includes runway extension (to 1.7 km), terminal building to seat 100, apron, taxiway, fire station, ground and navigation lights. Cost: Rs.45 crores; area – 370-acre airport site, 11 km from Mysore on Nanjangud Road.
Besides Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Air Deccan and Kingfisher Airlines would fly from Mysore. A CII survey estimates air traffic into and out of Mysore to be 80,000 seats annually.
