JSS Polytechnique for the Physically Handicapped (JSSPPH), first such institution of its kind in India, offers professional diploma courses for the disabled in several disciplines, including architecture, computer engineering, software programing and Jewellery design and technology. The layout of the campus is designed for unhindered movement of the wheelchair-bound, and has facilities such as gym, hydrotherapy pool, Braille library, audio/video material and computer access to students with pronounced disabilities.
The polytechnic also offers course devised to hone the commercial and administrative skills, according to principal Wing Cdr. Prabhakar. Significantly, the institution, through its initiative with local commecrcial and business houses has reportedly helped find jobs for 90 percent of those who have passed out so far.
